As a Baby Boomer, being laid off or fired is one of the worst feelings a person can experience. Did you think that putting in 10, 15 or even 20+ years would get you some protection later in your career? Have you now been turned out on your ear with nowhere to go?

Well, don’t let it be the end of the world for you. There are thousands of others that are going through the same thing. You must realize that it’s not a reflection of how well you did your job or how good of a person you are. Instead, it is just a reflection of a poor economy and possibly poor management decisions.

I also experienced a similar situation when I was laid off, not once, but three times over a period of a decade. The first time was the absolute worst and I was sure that it was the end of everything. However, I did recover so the second time was not so bad, and by the third time, I was ready to make some changes. I dug deep into my psyche and discovered that I was the only one in control of my destiny and that I wanted to be a player instead of just being a pawn.

This was quite a revelation and it allowed me to start thinking down roads that I had not visited since college. I had always wanted to run my own business so I started looking at home business ideas that were out there to be taken advantage of. I wanted to control my own destiny and not let others make decisions for me.

So, you also must turn those angry and demoralizing emotions into positive and productive emotions to help you move on with your life. You are really going to have to shift the way you think and the way you do things.

If you are finding it hard to get out of the laid off paradigm, here are three things that will help you shift your thinking.

1. Quit feeling sorry for yourself

It’s easy to sit around and mope and moan about how unfair life is. You could spend days, weeks, even months telling as many people that will listen how pitiful you are. If you stop and think, though, what good is that doing you? Sure, people feel sorry for you but it is not getting you ahead in your life. It is not doing anything other than making you more depressed.

So, you’ve got to kick the habit and start looking for things that will motivate you. All of your negative feelings and comments about yourself will only demoralize you more. Just let them go, and you will be amazed at how good you feel. Make a conscious decision to take control of your life and you are on your way to changing it.

2. Quit worrying about money

This is a big step for everyone, me included. However, if you can stop worrying about lack of money and start thinking about how to make more money, you will be pleasantly surprised. Instead of thinking from scarcity, think from abundance. Once you get going, you will reap what you sow. Once you get your mind adjusted to abundance, make it happen. Don’t just sit around and think how much you are going to have, go out there and get it.

3. Lose the old mindset

Wake up each morning and come up with a new way to look at the day or a new task to complete that you have never tried before. Instead of being a worker bee, you are now a butterfly that must find the business opportunities that will work for you. Then try it, see if it fits, and move forward if it does. If not, try something else. There are so many home internet business opportunities out there that you should find something very soon.

Finally, remember that you are in control of your destiny. If you can succeed at one of the myriad home business opportunities then you are the only one who can make decisions over your life. Nobody else has any control over you. Feels good, right?
