Resource Depot collects donations from businesses and individuals and redistributes the items to teachers, artists, families, and other non-profit organizations that need them, encouraging creative, hands-on learning and innovation. Not only does this support arts and education programs by stretching supply budgets, Resource Depot keeps hundreds of thousands of pounds of reusable materials out of the landfill each year –materials such as carpet squares, paper of all sizes and colors, wallpaper sample books, tiles and tile samples, office supplies and craft materials such as buttons, ribbon, yarn or beads. Organization/Company:  CROS Ministries Location:  Serves in 15 different locations with Palm Beach and Martin Ministries Volunteer Needed:  CROS Ministries Need Volunteers to Help Serve the Hungry! Details: Help Serve the Hungry! Gleaning is a food recovery operation where volunteers pick fresh produce at local farms that would otherwise go to waste. May is our last month of field gleaning for the season. In June and July, our gleaning events are in Lantana where we glean mangoes at the Solid Waste Authority's Transfer Station. We need volunteers to use mango picking sticks to get the mangoes off the tree and volunteers to collect the mangoes in boxes. CROS Ministries' mission is to serve the hungry in Palm Beach County through community collaborations. Last gleaning season - 2021-2022 - we recovered 779,463 pounds of fresh produce from local farms and distributed it to local food programs by our distribution partners. This is the equivalent of 649,553 meals (Based on Feeding America's equation of 1.2 lbs. of food = 1 meal.) The gleaning program helps provide food programs around the county with the ability to give out fresh produce, which is much more nutritious than canned or frozen vegetables or fruit. When children lack sufficient nutrition they have a lifelong increase in medical conditions and lower paying jobs because they were not able to learn while in school. We are providing fresh from the farm produce that has more nutritional value over canned or frozen vegetables people with low incomes can afford. Better nutrition equals a healthier body which in turn decreases health issues and the ability to function properly. Staff provides very clear instructions on site. The staff are moving around the area being gleaned to ensure volunteers are safe and following proper procedures. Volunteers need to be able to be outside and stand and bend for two hours. We do have volunteers to take breaks due to the heat and provide water. We glean from 8:00 am to 10:30 am Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Shifts are posted on Sign Up Genius where you can sign up for a date that works for you. Our volunteers often say that they feel they have received more than they have given. It is a humbling experience to see so many people struggling to feed themselves and their families. You can get great satisfaction from being able to help in some small way. For more information, contact Juanita Goode at jgoode@crosministries.org or 561-699-5113, or contact Karen Roberts at 561-625-8264. NOTE: Please do not submit your resume below.

Volunteers are needed to help sort food or pack food bags in two hour shifts.  You will be standing for the duration.  It is in our warehouse but it is air conditioned. We post the shifts on Sign Up Genius - a free program.  You sign up for the day you are able to come help. Our shifts are on Tuesdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 6:30pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. CROS Ministries serves the hungry in Palm Beach and Martin County through community collaborations.  It is only with volunteers that we are able to provide much needed food for families and individuals struggling to make ends meet. The food sorting and packing food bags helps to keep our pantries stocked and ready to serve all who come to our pantries. With your help we are helping people meet basic nutritional needs to function.  We serve children, parents or caregivers, seniors and people without homes. With your help, we are keeping children from going to bed hungry and helping them to be able to learn at school. The impact you have is unmeasurable.  We can give you the number of people served, but how do you track a child's ability to learn, a parents ability to function at work or a senior able to buy medication? Without the communities help we will never be able to end hunger in Palm Beach County. Minimal training is needed and is provided the day you come to help. You need to be able to stand up for two hours and read labels on cans. Our shifts are on Tuesdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 6:30pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. When you understand you are helping people to eat, a basic need for sustaining life, it is awe inspiring and humbling.  When you volunteer as part of a program to serve the hungry, you leave feeling good.  You have become part of the solution. Contact Rev. Juanita Bryant Goode at jgoode@crosministries.org or 561-699-5113.   PLEASE DISREGARD ABILITY TO POST RESUME BELOW.
