Building Better Readers Program

What:     Tutor three first and/or second grade children, one-on-one, in reading comprehension
Where:   At selected elementary schools throughout Palm Beach County
When:    During regular school hours, effective September 2018
Requirements:   Commitment to tutor two sessions/week, 90 minutes/session
(or team up with another volunteer and each tutors one session/week)
Minimum of 30 tutoring sessions required.

You can help 1st and 2nd grade children become readers by the end of third grade, increasing their chances of success in school.In the four years of this program, over 70% of the students tutored met the goal of being 50% closer to grade level reading than they were at the beginning of the school year.Training is required and provided by the Literacy Coalition and has been designed with the School District of Palm Beach County.
Trainings will be offered in Boynton Beach on Wednesday, August 22 and in West Palm Beach on Thursday, August 30.
Go to to register for training.Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have transportation and willing to commit to a minimum of 30 90-minute tutoring sessions during the school year.

Schedules are determined by each participating school.  Volunteers select the school and time frame for tutoring.
